Thumbnail Flapper Hat
I absolutely love flapper hats, so when I saw a vintage lace one online I just knew I had to replicate it in crochet, I hope you love it too!
This hat looks great ! And you're right, I love it too ^^ But I have a question before I start crocheting it. Could you please tell me the finished size ?

The finished unstretched circumference is 22" but the hat can easily stretch to larger sizes. It's supposed to be more of a loose fit since the style is more dressy than beanie-style hats

Hey, I really like your patterns. I've been having some trouble with this one. I've mostly learned crocheting on my own, and so I sometimes have problems with understanding some patterns. So my questions are... 1) I'm assuming that the ch 2 counts as a dc. Is this correct? 2) When you have to slip to a ch 1 or ch 2, where exactly am I supposed to do this? Is there an illustration somewhere that I could see? Sorry if these questions seem a little silly, and thank you for the lovely patterns. :-)

Hello Sarah, I really love this flapper hat!! I made it myself (thank you for the free pattern!!) as you can see on my weblog http://handysandy.web-log.nl, but it doesn't suit me as nice, as it does to you. I'm a dutch craft-girl and i love to crochet as well. (crochet = haken). I'm planning to make the devine hat and the cable hat. The cable hat fits perfectly well with my "warme wintersjaal" blog of 26 august 2008. Can you please explain the sizes of the hooks (which is for example the largest one?) Regards from Holland, Sandra

I am going to make a few of these and donate them to the local hospital for cancer patients. By the way, I love your policy on sharing patterns! Thanks so much for your generosity - I will pass your site on to all my crocheting pals!

You can use a regular chain 3 and sl st togther to form a ring and go from there, but the Adjustable Ring or what is sometimes called the Magic Circle will allow you to completely close the circle(warmer). If you want to use the adjustable ring go to Youtube and type in Magic circle or go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLuSVyKvoUg where you can find an easy to follow video on how to do one. Incidentally the woman who does this video does ALOT of other instructional videos on Youtube. She "taught" me how to crochet.

I just finished my second hat, after the first one was way to big. I bumped down to a G hook and it made all the difference. I will be frogging the first to remake later. Thanks for the great pattern!!!

The picture doesn't do this hat justice. The first one was liberated by my neighbor right away, and I'm doing a couple for the Breast Cancer folks. Very nice indeed.

Thanks for this great pattern! I made it yesterday since we are all snowed-in on this side of the country. It's fantastic, and works up really well! I know this is going to end up in my stash of favorite patterns. :)

I love this cap. I had no idea of 'Chemo cap' til my friend became ill and asked for a pattern. I googled it for her. But now she's too ill to make one and I have arthritis and can no longer crochet. Is there someone who would like to make and send her this cap? If you email me I'll give you her address. jgollatz@comcast.net She would be so appreciative.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for publishing this pattern. My sister-in-law is going through chemo for breast cancer and could not find a hat she liked. I made the flapper hat in natural colored cotton chenille for her and she loves it. It fits perfectly and is very flattering to her face. The cotton chenille was a good choice for yarn since it has a bit of body when crocheted, but still remains very soft to the touch. She liked the first hat so much that I used some Red Heart Plush from my stash to make a second hat in a royal purple color. Again, thank you for sharing the pattern.

Hi Sarah, I loved the Flapper Hat pattern that you created. I made a hat for my mom with the Red Heart WW yarn so that she would have a chemo hat that was comfortable. The pattern was easy to understand & crochet. I made a second hat for my neighbor to give to her sister in law & attached a label letting her know that you created the pattern & provided the link to your site. One of the chemo nurses from St. Peters Medical Center (New Brunswick, NJ) asked me if I would make additional ones so that they can give it to other patients that can't afford hats. My quick answer was yes. On every hat that I make & give them, I will be attaching a label that gives you credit & provide the link to your site as well. I will also be attaching a second label letting the patient know what brand yarn was used & the instructions for washing and drying the hat. Thank you so much for creating the pattern. A lot of chemo patients will now be able to protect their head & stay warm (especially in the winter). My mom is doing well with chemo & also says a big thank you to you for creating the pattern.

This hat looks so cute. Unfortunately for me, even when matching the gauge this hat was way too small when I finished it. Oh well. Maybe I will try again with a larger gauge. <3
